Currently known as TPT Petrochemicals PCL, to date back the company’s establishment, it was originally founded in November 1991 as Tuntex Petrochemicals
( Thailand ) Public Company Limited. In 1991 Tuntex Distinct Corporation, an affiliate
of Tuntex Petrochemicals Incorporation (who had constructed a PTA plant in Taiwan, Republic of China, several years before), Tuntex Thailand (through its wholly-owned subsidiary PTA Holding Co., Ltd.) and other investors established our company to apply for such a license from the BOI. The plant mechanical completion was in August 1995 and the commercial operation started in mid of October 1995. Although its original design capacity was 350,000 tons per year, it now has been debottle-necked to 420,000 tons since July 1996. A Co-Generation power plant which produced 55 MW electricity and high pressure steam is provided to support the PTA plant and other related companies. The surplus power is sold to the Electricity Generating Authority
of Thailand (EGAT)

Prior to the commencement of commercial production of our PTA plant in 1995, Thai polyester companies relied entirely on imported PTA. To reduce the growing polyester industry’s reliance on imports, and to further promote and develop the petrochemicals derivative products segment of the Thai petrochemical industry, including paraxylene and other aromatics products, in 1991 the Thai Board of Investment (the “BOI”) began seeking applicants for production licenses to build and operate, among others, PTA plants in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate conditioned on their using paraxylene produced in Thailand.

The Thai Board of Investment granted a PTA production license to us in October 1992. We began construction of our PTA plant in April 1993, commissioned our PTA plant, including the cogeneration plant, in August 1995, and began commercial production in October 1995.

In 2000, we restructured our corporate organization and transferred the ownership and the operation of our cogeneration plant assets to a newly-established wholly-owned subsidiary, TPT Utilities.
